The 23rd International Pectinid Workshop will be held from 19th to 25th April, 2023 on Isle of Man at the Empress Hotel, located on the seafront of the island’s capital, Douglas.
The International Pectinid Workshop has been a biennial event on the calendar of marine researchers from all over the world since 1976. The workshop is dedicated to the dissemination of knowledge concerning the numerous and varied scallop species of the world. Pectinids have a worldwide economic and ecological importance as evidenced by the more than 125 participants from 25 countries who usually attend the workshops.
The workshop returns to the island for a second time, having previously hosted in 1980, and it is an appropriate venue for the event with two important scallop fisheries based on the queen scallop (Aequipecten opercularis) and the king scallop (Pecten maximus) – a truly royal couple.
This 23rd Workshop will focus on the biology, aquaculture, reproduction, physiology, biochemistry, genetics, ecology, and of course the fisheries and economics of scallops. We encouraged all individuals involved with pectinids to submit an abstract for consideration as an oral or poster presentation at the workshop.
In addition to the scientific programme, we will be providing a range of social events, highlighting the diverse and unique culture of the Isle of Man.
The challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic have already delayed this workshop, and it will necessarily be an important consideration at this event. We will try to provide as much flexibility and innovation as possible in delivering a safe, and as-close-to normal pectinid workshop as possible.
We are very much looking forward to seeing you in Douglas, on the Isle of Man in April.
